How the EPD's "TEXT-A-TIP" Program Works

By Mayre Press, member of 9th ward outreach committee

The Evanston Police Department has expanded its TEXT-A-TIP program citywide to provide citizens with a secure and anonymous method of providing information to the police from any cell phone. TEXT-A-TIP allows the public to send tips about criminal activity via text message (including pictures, video or audio).

To do so, you must have text messaging enabled on your cellular phone and subscribe to a participating cell phone service provider. Begin your tip message by entering the number

274637 (which spells out the word CRIMES) in the phone number screen. Start your message with

EPDTIP (to ensure it is routed to the proper police department) and enter your tip with as much detail as possible.

Ridgeville Farmers' Market--Every Wednesday Until October 12!

By Mayre Press, member of 9th ward outreach committee

On Wednesdays from 3:30-7 p.m. (or until dusk) there is an opportunity to buy locally sourced fruits and vegetables, fresh-roasted coffee, baked goods and other products in South Evanston.

Ridgeville Park District (RPD) is comprised of portions of the 2nd and 4th wards, and all of the 8th and 9th wards in Evanston. Taxpayers in those wards often complain about the additional taxes they pay to support the district.

Put Leadership Skills to Use--Become a Block Captain!

By Mayre Press, member of 9th ward outreach committee

Crime prevention is an issue for all communities and partnerships with the Evanston Police Department are encouraged. Participating in a Neighborhood Watch Program is a way for residents to address immediate crime problems, focus on home security and build neighborhood cohesion.

To help prevent crime, the police need the eyes and ears of citizens like you. Over the years, several 9th Ward neighborhoods have formed Neighborhood Watch groups. If your area doesn't have one, the EPD would like you to start a Neighborhood Watch Program and learn about reducing your chances of becoming a crime victim.
